Abstract

Aquaculture is a highly profitable venture in India. Also, it has availability of nutritive food for the growing population. Cows were regarded as wealth and were the backbone of the economy of ancient Indians. Cow urine is considered to be the most effective animal origin substance having intrinsic property of general health improvement. (Gir) Cow urine were used in this present study, to evaluate its efficiency in enhancing growth and improving in mrigala fingerlings, one of the Indian major carps. The control and treated groups were sacrificed on the 30th day post cow urine treatment and the growth and biochemical parameters were analyzed , the results show significant effect of cow urine of the Indian major carp Cirrhinus mrigala. The maximum growth rate of 0.00532 gm/day was observed in the cirrhinus mrigala fingerlings treated with 0.1% of Gir Cow Urine when compared with control.

Abstract

From the ancient period cow's urine has been used as a medicine. In India, drinking of cow urine has been practiced for thousands of years. Indiscriminate uses of antibiotics have caused microbial resistance and also lead side effects. To overcome from such situation plants and animal materials are widely used for the treating various substances due to antimicrobial properties in aquaculture. In Aquaculture, cow urine has been used to improve general health of an individual. Therefore, the present study is under taken to study in vitro antibacterial potential of cow urine against fish pathogenic bacteria, like, (Aeromonas hydrophila, Escherishia coli, Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylicoccus aerus) the method employed to study the different concentration of cow urine (25%, 50%, 75% and 100%, control used as distilled water) antibacterial activity is agar disc diffusion technique. A reference standard drug, Amphicillin was used. The results showed good antibacterial activity of cow urine against most of the test bacterial strains by exhibiting zone of inhibition. These results thus proves that indigenous cow urine possess good inhibitory activities against fish pathogens and can be used to control infectious diseases.

Abstract

Gomutra has been recorded for its high prophylactic and therapeutic values since Vedic times in India. Its application in Aquaculture has not been explored so far. Hence the present study has been aimed to assess the effect of different breeds of cow urine on the growth and biochemical parameters of Cirrhinus mrigala fingerlings. Urine from different breeds of cow like Haryana, Gir, Jercy was collected. Fingerlings were treated with 0.1% concentrations of different breeds of cow urine for a period of seven days. The control and treated groups were sacrificed on the 30^th day post cow urine treatment and the growth and biochemical parameters were analysed, the results show significant effect of cow urine on the nutrient value of the Indian major carp Cirrhinus mrigala.
